J Balvin ‘s home is located in native Columbia, and all we will find is a modern, peaceful home surrounded by nature. Step inside his refugee!
José Alvaro Osorio Balvin is a Colombian singer known for breaking records, and out-of-the-box looks. However, on the inside, he loves to be with his own, peaceful and quiet. J Balvin opens the doors of his loft in Medellín, where simplicity is the main word to define his home.
The Latin Grammy Award-winner artist says that “Architecture, music, fashion—they’re all forms of expression. When it comes to the places I live, I definitely take a less-is-more approach,”. He also adds that “A house should be a place where you can rest your spirit. I’ve tried to create places that feed my soul, not my ego,”
The interior design of his Medellín loft belongs to 5 Sólidos, which means that this firm works on interior design, branding. architecture, furniture design, and project management (they are 5). He chooses them because they are from his city, they are Latinos and their passion for design is always clear in their projects.
According to Elisa Ortega (partner in 5 Sólidos), “Jose is very demanding. He has a clear idea of what he likes and how he wants to live. You see it reflected in the artwork he collects, the books on the shelves, the neutral palette—every detail down to the sheets and towels,”
Medellín Refugee
The amazing team of 5 Sólidos managed to build a home where we can find a clear influence of Japanese aesthetics, for example, the blackened wood siding and shoji-like framed linen doors. There are also luminous planes of French oak on the inside, side by side with modern design furnishings.
In this Medellín unique, modern home there is a deck that establishes a direct connection between the house and the swimming pool. “Water calms me down. I love being out there, especially at night, surrounded by the trees and the darkness,” Balvin says.

One thing that every room has in common is Art! “There’s lots of color in the pieces Jose collects, so he wanted a very muted palette to keep the focus on the paintings and sculpture,” the designer Correa says. We can find art pieces by Takashi Murakami, Josh Sperling, KAWS, and more.
J Balvin is a sneakers lover, so this is why he has this amazing closet. We simply love it!
“I just love the process. It would be amazing to create special hotels of fine art and style, something with an Aman vibe with contributions by people like KAWS and Murakami,” says J Balvin. “Their work makes me feel like I’m a kid again, laughing on the playground. That’s a great feeling.”
