Portofino Splendido Mare Hotel is a diamond on the Italy Coast. Designed by Charlotte Tonnac and Hugo Sauzay, this magic place has everything you need for the perfect vacation.
When Hugo Sauzay talks about the Portofino Splendido Mare Hotel, he says that “It’s like a postcard”.
“You’re on a pier in Italy, you close your eyes, people are shouting, waves are crashing.”, and this was the exact feeling of the Parisian Duo (in design and in life) when they decided to transform this iconic property.
It has neutral shades and natural materials that instantly recall the ropes and sails of boats and yachts. Adding the neutral colors, you can also see subtle details in coral and amber and see green. All furnishings are a mix of Italian and vintage pieces.
Portofino’s Splendido Mare Hotel is situated in a 1930’s building, and it only has 14 guest rooms. But also a breathless view, as we can see in the image.
The bathrooms have Carrara marble side by side with jaunty cabana-striped showers. Inspired by the beach huts of Santa Maria Ligure.

In this lodging, you’ll be able to discover conventional marquetry in a rope theme. It incorporates whirling terra-cotta floor tiles and vintage Italian treasures by Gio Ponti and Paolo Buffa.
The 14 rooms are as sunny and natural as Portofino itself. The front rooms have French windows and balconies overlooking the marina. The most luxurious suite is located on the top floor, it’s the “Ava Gardner” and it has a romantic roof terrace.
Charlotte and Hugo always want to create a mood when talking about their projects. According to the couple, “With every project, we try to create an atmosphere,”.
They also have more hospitality projects, such as Le Pigalle in Paris and Les Roches Rouges on the Côte d’Azur.
